A couple of days ago we got back home from Austin, where we spent a few days. Hubby had a convention to attend and back in the pre-kiddos days, I would always join him and we would make a little vacation out of it. We decided to do the same this time, but with the littles. Thankfully, Greg's parents decided to come with us and that just took all my worries away.
The flight went great, despite it being delayed a couple of hours. Annika got on the plane, put her head down on the arm rest and fell asleep for the duration of the flight. That's a little unlike our little crazy, but I'll take it. Mr. Leo ate at take-off and landing, took a nap somewhere in between, and for the rest of the time just looked around and cooed. He is an angel baby.
The first night in Austin, while "Yelping" dinner spots, I stumbled upon this Russian restaurant a 2-minute walk from our hotel. I ended up eating there 3 times and my-oh-my was it authentic and so.incredibly.delicious!
Other pretty memorable eateries are Crave (seemed very healthy!) and Cru Wine Bar (as we were sitting outside enjoying our wine flights, Greg said this was how he pictured a European vacation).
The weather was delightful and we did a lot of walking around the downtown area. Once Greg and I stumbled upon a neighborhood where old historical homes and bungalows have been redeveloped into bars, restaurants, and lounges. Rainey Street isn't the prettiest or the classiest street, if anything it looks a bit raggedy, like a hipster who hasn't showered in days. But you know, it's the vibe... It's also a home to a food-truck trailer park. I had no idea those even existed.
All the food and attractions are nice and all, but something has to be said about our living arrangements. We stayed in Courtyard Marriott downtown and Greg and I shared a room with the kids. Remind me to never do that again, okay? From now on, it's suites for us, because nobody slept during our stay in Austin. Except Mr. Leo though, he slept great the entire time. (Have I mentioned he is an angel baby?). Annika couldn't deal with the fact that we were all in the same room and wanted to do anything but sleep at night. She spent most nights in our bed, torturing us till the wee hours. Goodness gracious! I love that girl and her crazy awesome personality; I just wish she'd tone it down at night:)!
Travels back home went well too. The kids slept almost the entire flight. I won't go into details of how upon landing Mr. Leo went into a screaming spree, because I fear you might think he isn't an angel after all. Because he is.
I do love traveling, and we had a fun-fun trip, but give me a few days before I think about going somewhere any time soon.

What great pictures! I remember taking my kids on a plane when they were little and I have to say I PRAYED the whole way! BTW the food looks so yummy...was that caviar in the middle of the picture? what is surrounding it?...just curious. Have a great day.

Hi Joanne. Thanks. And I did pray too and my prayers were answered.
DeleteThis is crepes with caviar, a very traditional Russian food:) My husband tried it and thought it was gross, but I LOVE it:)
