Now that the cat is out of the bag (as in, the news of our house is out!), I can finally start talking about it. Can't stop me now.
I have to say, I always thought I would want to buy a new house, or at least a move-in ready house, where nothing needs to be even painted, let alone remodeled. Little did I know... That house doesn't exist, because I can always find something wrong. So buying a house at a good price left us some wiggle room for remodeling and it's been so fun perusing Pinterest for ideas.
The list of things that need to be done is quite long. One good thing - a lot of it won't be done by us:) As much as I would love to channel my inner Sherry Petersick and do everything by myself, I'm just going to stick with my inner Phoebe Buffey and say "Oh, I would love to! But I just don't want to!"
- Paint cabinets white
- Paint the walls
- Paint trim white
- Remove the door leading to the laundry room and drywall it.
- Build a pantry
- Replace Hardware
- Paint walls
- Paint trim
- Remove wall between kitchen and dining room.
- Paint walls
- Remove chair rail
- Update window treatment
- Paint cabinets (although this isn't a priority and can be done later on)
- Remove wallpaper and paint walls
- Replace the ceiling fan
- Remove the built-ins and build closets instead
- Do something about that ugly fireplace (but keep it!)
- Window treatment
- Replace carpet
5. Master bathroom
- Complete remodel (it's a hole in the wall currently): move some walls and put in new floors, shower, and vanity.
- Combine laundry room with the bathroom (the best solution we could find for laundry room placement)
- Remove wallpaper
- Paint walls
- Remove the glass sliding doors in the bathtub
8. Hallways and entryway
- Paint walls
- Paint trim
9. Little bits all over the house
- Drywall these gaudy 70s style intercoms
- Replace the light switches
There it is. A mile long. One thing is awesome about this house - I wouldn't change a thing about the backyard:)

Hi Lena! I'm Heather and I wanted to know if you would be able to answer my quick question about your blog! If you could email me at Lifesabanquet1(at)gmail(dot)com that would be great!
ReplyDeleteThere's always a house that you really like, but there's something that you have to replace eventually to suit your needs and tastes. But that usually doesn't detract the overall appeal of the house. I'm sure you've had this new home of yours inspected before moving in; doing so helps in determining which part needs to be improved upon. Congratulations on your new house, and have fun renovating!
